Star Wars: Everything We Know About Jedi Temples | NowThis Nerd

Hey guys, I’m Mike and I’m dying to know more about ‘The Last Jedi’ But details about ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ are locked down tighter than the nuclear launch codes

YAHOO!!! We do know that Luke’s been searching for the First Jedi Temple, And that he may have found it on the lonely island of Ahch-To To learn more about what that means in the context of the saga, And what the temples might teach us about ‘The Last Jedi’ Let’s go through Everything We Know About Jedi Temples And man, we knew a whole lot more before the Expanded Universe bit the dust Unfortunately, the Disney acquisition meant that a lot of our ancient Jedi knowledge is no longer canon

Much to learn, you still have Still, there’s a lot we do know about the mysterious shrines where they gathered Let’s start with the only one that’s appeared in a movie: The Jedi Temple on Coruscant This massive structure was built over an ancient Sith shrine, located on a mountaintop that was a natural vergence for the Force A vergence, you say? A vergence is sort of a magnet for the Force, a place where it gathers and gives strength to all nearby The cave on Dagobah was a Force nexus, and so are the grounds of the Coruscant Jedi Temple

The Jedi took over and made it their headquarters for centuries It’s where the High Council met, Where they stored their library of Holocrons, And where they trained the new recruits One of their main training grounds was in a courtyard surrounding a Force-sensitive Tree The ancient tree was destroyed by Darth Sidious after he conquered the Galaxy and became Emperor He also converted the Temple into his Imperial Palace as a final insult to the Jedi Order

The Emperor kept two tiny twigs alive, and hid them away at secret base on Vetine Three months after the decisive Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker and a Rebel pilot named Shara Bey broke in and stole them back Luke kept one of the twigs for himself and gave the other to Bey After she retired from the Alliance, she planted it on Yavin-4, where Bey settled with her husband Kes Dameron, and their son Poe So Poe Dameron was actually raised in the shadow of a force-sensitive tree, That means his piloting skill could come from strength in the Force, Which he got by growing up around the tree

Can you fly a TIE Fighter? I can fly anything Who knows? He might actually end up being one of the titular last Jedi As for Luke’s twig, We’re not quite sure what he did with it In the first trailer, we’re shown some old Jedi books resting inside a gigantic tree Which, incidentally, is the only time we’ve actually seen paper in the ‘Star Wars’ films

There are also behind-the-scenes images of a burned-out dead tree among the ruins of Ahch-To Did Luke plant it years ago, when he began teaching his disastrous first class of new Jedi? Or is it the far more ancient tree of the mythical First Jedi Temple? The rumor mill is going crazy over this polarizing plant, but we’ll have to wait until December to get to the root of the issue Know what I mean? Nudge, nudge Know what I mean? Say no more, know what I mean? Another important Jedi Temple was built on Illum, An icy planet in Sector 7G of the Unknown Regions There isn't enough life on this ice cube to fill a space cruiser

The Jedi built their temple inside a massive mountain wall, as an impenetrable fortress to protect the Crystal Caves below Not the most hospitable place I think that's the point

That’s where the extremely rare Kyber crystals grew Before the Disney purchase, the Kyber crystal was a magical relic that could amp up your Force abilities But in the new canon, they’re an insanely powerful natural resource As we saw in ‘Rogue One,’ they’re the main ingredient in the Death Star superlaser, But more importantly, Kyber crystals are the heart of a Jedi’s lightsaber And for thousands of years, countless Jedi younglings journeyed to Illum to receive their own, in a sacred ritual called The Gathering

Build your own lightsaber, you shall But first, harvest your own crystal, each one of you must After finding the temple and clearing a way inside, the baby Jedi would make their way through the catacombs in search of their own unique crystal The Caves were also a powerful force vergence, and on their search the younglings encountered personalized trials based on their own fears and insecurities Kind of like when Luke went into the cave on Dagobah

Eventually, the Force would lead them to the crystal that matched them best as a Jedi Kyber crystals are attuned to each individual user, kind of like Harry Potter wands It calls to you! If you grab the wrong crystal, it’ll be cold to the touch But the right one will sing to you, and reach out through the Force Kyber crystals are also colorless until the right Jedi comes along

Once it chooses you, the crystal changes to blue, green, or purple if you’re Samuel L Jackson This party's over Which in turn determines what color your lightsaber blade is Since Kyber crystals are naturally attuned to the light side, The Sith have to use the Force to dominate their energy, The resulting red color is actually the Kyber crystal “bleeding” from its unnatural disposition

There’s still plenty of power inside, though Kylo Ren’s cracked crystal gives off so much energy, he has to have two vents in the crossguard to siphon off the excess juice Maybe he’ll be able to snag a new one at the First Jedi Temple? I mean, Luke’s got to be guarding more than just some books and Porgs After ‘Return of the Jedi,’ Luke traveled around the galaxy seeking out temples and knowledge, so who knows what other relics he could have found? Let’s run through the rest of the canon temples we know about There’s one hidden underground on Lothal

Where a padawan could face the Trials and become a full-fledged Jedi Knight The last time we saw it, Darth Vader had claimed it for the Empire, The Master will be most pleased with this discovery but there’s no telling what’s happened to it since the fall Luke also visited The Temple of Eedit on the jungle planet Devaron The planet houses a powerful vergence in the Force, which made it an excellent training ground

The Temple there was a thriving Jedi Academy until the Empire nuked it from orbit In the old continuity, the planet Ossus housed the Great Jedi Library But the prequels moved it to Coruscant In the new canon, there used to be a library there, But all we know is that it was destroyed before the Clone Wars Begun, the Clone War has

Another casualty of the EU’s demise is Tython, The planet that was the original birthplace of the Jedi order That’s no longer the case, but there’s still an old temple there Jedha, the moon from ‘Rogue One,’ could at least be the origin of their name It was a hub for Force users throughout the galaxy for millennia, And another major source of Kyber crystals Even during the Empire’s reign the Church of the Force still maintained a presence, I am with the Force, and I fear nothing

Because all is as the Force wills it But the Jedi temples were in ruins Before he met Yoda, Luke swung by the temple on Vrogas Vas, after he was summoned there by a Holocron He saw a vision of Obi-Wan and his father, Who he hadn’t yet learned was secretly Darth Vader Nooo!!! Speaking of Vader, he crash-landed on the planet too, And enlisted the help of Dr

Aphra and BT-1 to snatch his son But Luke escaped to continue his search for knowledge The Jedi scattered their temples throughout the galaxy There could be thousands more than the canon ones we know about, and any one of them could play a huge role in ‘The Last Jedi,’ Or none of them can! That’s the nature of speculation like this But until ‘The Last Jedi’ comes out, We’re going to keep on digging
